The story behind the place

Kalinago Barana Autê is a cultural village celebrating the living heritage of Dominica’s Kalinago people. Its own website identifies the Mwena as an A-frame, separately from the covered communal Karbet. The steep thatch, exposed timber ribs and open passage give this structure its shape. Look beneath the roof to see how the wooden members carry its covering. The village is a modern place for sharing culture and skills, rather than an untouched settlement from the distant past.
