The story behind the place

Alofi’s Ekalesia Church stands at Tomb Point. Its broad shallow gable and simple entrance canopy contrast with the elaborate towers of many churches elsewhere. The building is also a place of community memory. In 2021, Broadcasting Corporation Niue reported Alofi North and Alofi South coming together to commemorate the congregation’s history. Plaques remembered pastors and their wives who served Alofi and other communities, and a book gathered the church’s story. The people connected with the place matter as much as its walls.
