The story behind the place

Kernavė's archaeological landscape lies in the Neris valley. Settlement remains span many periods, from the late Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages, and include the town, burial places and five hill forts. The medieval town's destruction in the late fourteenth century forms one episode within this much longer history of land use.
