The story behind the place

Garni’s dark stone columns and triangular pediment preserve a striking classical design within Armenia’s landscape. The temple is traditionally dated to the first century CE. Its present standing form also tells a modern conservation story: after collapse, surviving stones were studied and the temple was re-erected in work completed in 1975. Look at the raised platform and Ionic columns, then imagine the care involved in bringing fallen architectural pieces together.
