The story behind the place

Caana stands above a major plaza at Caracol in Belize. The complex combines four palace groups with three temples and rises about 43.5 metres above the plaza. Its arrangement shows how royal residences and monumental religious buildings could share a prominent architectural setting within a Classic-period Maya city. Its name means 'Sky Place'.
