The story behind the place

Windhoek’s Christuskirche was designed by Gottlieb Redecker and consecrated in 1910. Warm stone walls, pale trim and red roofs give its basilica-inspired design a distinctive character. The square bell tower rises beside the main body rather than creating a symmetrical pair of towers. Rounded and curving details sit alongside the tall pointed spire. The church remains a place of worship as well as a building through which to notice the city’s architectural history.
