Idrija Mercury Heritage
A mining town preserves the buildings and infrastructure of mercury production.

The story behind the place
Mercury was found at Idrija in 1490, beginning an industry whose traces remain in the town. Stores, working infrastructure, miners' housing and a theatre show how mining shaped both labour and community life. Idrija shares World Heritage recognition with Almadén in Spain, reflecting a trade that linked Europe and the Americas.
