Virgin Gorda Copper Mine
Industrial ruins reveal connections between a Caribbean island and Cornish mining expertise.

The story behind the place
A copper mine operated on Virgin Gorda's south-eastern tip during the nineteenth century. Cornish miners and their families worked with local people, linking the island to mining knowledge from Britain. Surviving industrial structures and an abandoned engine beam provide material evidence for archaeological research into that community and its technology.
