Annaberg Sugar Plantation
A ruined factory landscape records sugar production and the lives forced to sustain it.

The story behind the place
Annaberg on St John preserves a windmill tower, factory and other plantation structures from the Danish colonial period. Sugar, molasses and rum were produced for export through the labour of enslaved Africans. The surviving buildings are evidence of both an industrial process and the severe inequalities on which that process depended.
