Uzgen Minaret
Patterned brick bands circle a minaret beside Uzgen’s medieval mausoleums.

The story behind the place
Uzgen’s archaeological complex includes a minaret and three connected mausoleums associated with the Karakhanid period. On the tower, varied brick patterns divide the narrowing shaft into clear bands above an octagonal base. The upper lantern is a later addition, showing how conservation and repair can become part of a familiar silhouette. Its surviving form therefore joins medieval masonry with more recent work rather than representing one untouched moment in the past.
