Burana Tower
A truncated brick tower survives among the remains of a Silk Roads city.

The story behind the place
Burana Tower stands at the archaeological site of Balasagun in the Chuy Valley. The city was a significant centre on routes connecting Central Asia, and its surviving remains form a component of the Silk Roads World Heritage property. The tower’s patterned brickwork and broad base suggest its earlier height, while its present flat top records loss and repair. The landscape around it preserves more than a single monument, including traces of the former settlement.
