The story behind the place

The Cathedral Church of St George is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of the Windward Islands. The diocese records its dedication on 1 September 1820, on the site of an earlier church lost in a hurricane. Its long pale frontage, square tower and darker stone side gable show different phases of building. Look for the contrast between the simple repeated windows and the larger arched opening at the side. Restoration is part of this building’s continuing story.
