Fort Charlotte Gateway
A green gate opens through the heavy volcanic-stone entrance of Fort Charlotte.

The story behind the place
Fort Charlotte stands on a ridge above Kingstown. The government’s heritage account dates the start of construction to 1763 and its completion and naming to 1806. This view concentrates on the round-arched gateway and battered masonry beside it. The fort’s elevated position helped it watch the surrounding area, but this small entrance scene leaves the broad harbour panorama outside the picture. It is a historic fortification, not a newly built castle.
