The story behind the place

Look between the square towers for a bright blue cross and a round coloured window. Mata-Utu’s cathedral brings local volcanic stone and Christian imagery together in an unmistakable frontage. The territorial tourism history traces an earlier stone church here to the 1850s. This remains a place of worship, as well as a landmark in Wallis’s capital.
