The story behind the place

Napoleon moved into Longwood House on Saint Helena in December 1815 and lived there until his death in 1821. The house and associated French estates later became places of preservation and interpretation. Rooms, surviving furnishings and historical records connect this particular building with the wider political history of his exile.
