Karen Blixen Museum house
A low stone bungalow connects a writer's life with Kenya's colonial-era farming history.

The story behind the place
The house now preserved as the Karen Blixen Museum was part of a coffee farm near the Ngong Hills. Blixen lived here until leaving Kenya in 1931, later describing her experiences in Out of Africa. Today the museum's house, furnishings and farm equipment connect that literary story with the material history of the farm. The tiled roof and shaded veranda make the building’s domestic scale easy to recognise.
