Our Lady of the Rosary, Asmara
Warm brick, round windows and a soaring clock tower mark this church in central Asmara.

The story behind the place
The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary has a long brick nave, a rose window above its front entrance and a tall bell tower. Look for the contrast between the low roofline and the pointed spire. It belongs to the diverse religious townscape that UNESCO describes in its account of Asmara, where churches, mosques and other community buildings share the city. Often nicknamed the cathedral, its precise public name here is the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary.
