The story behind the place

The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests belongs to Beijing’s Temple of Heaven. Its predecessor, built in 1420, was rectangular. A rebuilding in 1545 introduced a circular hall with three roof tiers, then coloured blue, yellow and green. In 1751 all the roof tiles became blue and the hall received its present name. Its architecture records changes in the ceremonial place where emperors prayed for harvests.
