Boujdour's lighthouse is also known as the Cabo Bojador light. Its tall octagonal masonry tower carries a lantern and gallery above long pale vertical panels. The University of North Carolina's Lighthouse Directory records the present tower as 45 metres tall, with the light raised above the surrounding town. Low station buildings cluster at its base. The lighthouse offers a distinct architectural landmark on this Atlantic coast, connecting the town's skyline with the practical history of maritime navigation.
Dakhla Bay contains intertidal seagrass beds, algal plains and salt or sand flats. Eelgrass supports a varied community of marine invertebrates and fish, while the bay also provides habitat for migratory waterbirds. Its ecological story concerns the sheltered water and tidal habitats behind the Atlantic coast's outer dune system.
Saint Francis of Assisi is the cathedral of the local apostolic prefecture in Laayoune. Its main entrance is framed by a broad semicircular façade, a perforated screen and a plain bell tower. Behind these restrained forms is a community of worshippers whose backgrounds span several countries, as described by the prefecture. The building's rounded arch and geometric openings create a distinctive modern silhouette. It is an urban place of worship, quite different from the coastal dunes and tidal habitats elsewhere in Western Sahara.
