archaeology
At Kuk in Papua New Guinea's western highlands, buried remains show how people changed wetland cultivation over millennia. Farming moved from mounds towards drainage ditches made with wooden tools. The archaeological evidence points to an independent development of agriculture, with bananas, taro and yam central to its history.
