# Territory information and sources

The map uses Natural Earth Polygon/MultiPolygon boundaries (public domain), with
the main Wallis island exception credited below. WLF combines that OpenStreetMap
component with its unchanged Natural Earth Futuna component.
England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are four separate entries. The UK
search result is a collection, with no extra polygon. This is the current 240-entry
playable catalogue, including dependencies and two polar game locations.
The poles are geographic points, not sovereign countries or territorial claims.

Boundaries use a de facto convention, not a position on legal sovereignty.
Some disputed or unmatched areas remain unselectable context. The precise list
is [catalogue-omissions.json](/data/catalogue-omissions.json). Small-place markers
are selection aids; they do not enlarge the underlying national boundaries.

Names, capitals, regions and geographic notes: [mledoze/countries](https://github.com/mledoze/countries),
Open Database Licence 1.0. The adapted [catalogue](/data/territories.json) and
[information](/data/information.json) remain available under that licence.
Data is a downloaded snapshot, not a continuously updated geopolitical feed.

Population: Natural Earth POP_EST and POP_YEAR, with the reference year displayed
alongside each figure. These are historical map-dataset estimates, not current
population claims. See [Natural Earth](https://www.naturalearthdata.com/downloads/10m-cultural-vectors/10m-admin-0-countries/).
The four UK territories use separately sourced 2021/2022 census figures linked
within their panels. Missing estimates are explicitly identified rather than guessed.

Previously verified unusual facts link to their evidence and include checked dates.
Other territories currently show sourced geographic notes. These are not represented
as a completed collection of bizarre facts. UNESCO-derived paraphrases are adapted
under [CC BY-SA IGO 3.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/igo/).

NASA terrain imagery, processing and streaming are unchanged; see
[terrain sources](/terrain/SOURCES.md). Full historical catalogue decisions are in
the project SOURCES.md. Source snapshot hashes are in
[information-provenance.json](/data/information-provenance.json).

## Local shoreline support

Main Guard illustration placement uses © [OpenStreetMap contributors](https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright), under [ODbL 1.0](https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/). The [adapted local shoreline data](/data/bridgetown-ground.json) is offered under that licence. Four original coastline ways are retained; the inland closing segment is an artificial crop boundary, not a real shoreline. This finer support does not establish visual or geographic acceptance of the illustration. Other local illustration support uses public-domain Natural Earth.

## Main Wallis island boundary

The main Wallis / Île Uvea component of WLF uses © [OpenStreetMap contributors](https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright), under [ODbL 1.0](https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/). The complete [adapted Wallis coastline dataset](/data/wallis-coastline.json) is available under that licence, with source-way/version/date and original-response hash. The [combined map geometry](/data/geometry.json) includes that ODbL component; it is not wholly Natural Earth public-domain data. WLF’s Futuna component and all other territory components retain their original Natural Earth coordinates and provenance.

This correction preserves the exact complete already-closed OSM way 22382439 (version 66), retrieved 16 October 2026. No vertices were moved or simplified, and no crop boundary was added. It covers main Wallis island only; it does not add lagoon, reef, satellite-island or crater-lake boundaries, establish a legal/tidal survey, or certify Talietumu’s exact restored platform. Geometry and NASA raster imagery are separate sources: this boundary correction does not change terrain images.
